Pharmaceutical Reps Classified as Exempt Employees by SCOTUS

The Supreme Court of the United States rejected the U.S. Department of Labor’s interpretation of Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) regulations in a close 5-4 ruling in Christopher v. SmithKline Beecham Corp. that pharmaceutical sales representatives are employed in the capacity of outside salespeople and are exempt from the FLSA’s overtime compensation requirement.

Healthcare Spending Up, and Down?

Recently The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) released their latest estimates of national healthcare spending over the past few years — and they seem to provide some rare good news. Researchers determined that total U.S. health costs increased 3.8 percent in 2009 and 3.9 percent in 2010 — the slowest annual growth rates in 50 years.
